I’m paneled with Medicare and will bill Medicare directly as a courtesy. If there’s a co-pay, you will be responsible for that payment. I am out of network with other insurance carriers. I provide monthly billing statements which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You are financially responsible for sessions that you schedule. I hold your time especially for you. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to a scheduled appointment to avoid an unnecessary charge (full session fee).

Why I like to work with older clients.

I’m passionate about working with older adults. I’ve been working in this field for over 15 years.  Transitions can be hard, and aging may be one of the most difficult life transitions we have. The question of “Who are we now” becomes vital to finding our continued meaning and purpose. This transition is also filled with grief and loss. Loss of friends and family, loss of physical, mental and sometimes cognitive abilities. These challenges can get in the way of a person’s life, visions and hopes and can lead to depression, anxiety, substance use.

Is this you?

  • How I will help you find purpose

Each person has a rich personal history. The power in their stories and narrative can be used to help deal with today’s issues and concerns. These stories can be part of the change process. Together we look at how to approach this transition so the person can reclaim their life and discover who they are now. We mutually search for and intentionally design a new life that is satisfying and provides a sense of fulfillment. The spiritual leader Ram Dass calls this transition “going from role to soul.”

  • Taking care of a loved one?

Taking care of your loved one can be rewarding as well as challenging. Being a caregiver can isolate you. Caregiving can bring emotional and physical stress, which can lead to depression, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. Finding ways to bring joy and connection into your everyday life is essential to maintaining your wellbeing. Research has shown that caregivers are at high risk for depression, burnout, and guilt. Grief is a normal and common emotion when taking care of your loved one, and these issues need to be addressed. By taking care of yourself and seeking support you can better cope with the emotional toll of caregiving.

  • Are you taking care of a parent?

I also work with adult children who may be caught in the sandwich of caring for their parents and caring for their own children. Taking care of your parent can be rewarding and exhausting. It can be an emotional rollercoaster. I can assist in processing what can be a difficult time. And because I’ve worked in senior centers, senior communities and assisted living, I can help navigate available resources.

My work

I use many different models and theories in my work. I’m trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and use mindfulness as a core tool. DBT was developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD, a researcher and educator from the University of Washington for individuals with persistent problems with thoughts and emotions. DBT teaches skills that can be used in every area of life. Years of solid research has shown DBT to be the most effective therapy for individuals who struggle with being overwhelmed by strong  emotions.   Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a short-term, problem focused form of behavioral treatment that helps people see the difference between beliefs, thoughts, and free them from unhelpful patterns of behavior. CBT sessions are structured to ensure that the therapist and the person in treatment are focused on the different goals of each session, which in turn ensures that each session that each and every session is productive.
